Three Mashpee teens were arrested in Cape Cod Wednesday morning on charges of possessing a stolen motor vehicle.

According to Cape Cod Police Chief Peter Wack,  18 year-old Preston McNeill, 17 year-old Wayra Gomez-Wixom, and 18 year-old Phillip Hicks were arrested after allegedly leading a police officer on a chase around 1:25 a.m. Wednesday. The officer involved in the pursuit observed the teens pulling into The Food Mart on Route 130 in the stolen vehicle, which had defective equipment, Wack said.

When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it rapidly accelerated, leading to a pursuit away from the convenience store. The officer ran the vehicle’s registration information and learned it had been reported stolen from Mashpee, Wack said. The teens eventually fled the vehicle but were arrested by members of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.

The police are seeking charges of all three teens with possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
