A man from Harwich was caught driving under the influence in Dennisport Friday evening.

The 20-year-old man was driving on Depot Street in an Audi shortly after 9pm when the incident occurred. The driver lost control of the car, then drove through a fence and hit a tree along the car’s path. The vehicle finally came to a halt after striking a boat trailer.

According to a Dennis fire official, hydraulic tools were needed to remove the man from the vehicle. The 20-year-old sustained serious injuries, but they are believed to be non-life threatening. He was taken to the Cape Cod hospital for treatment.

The man has been charged with speeding, violation of a marked lane, and operating under the influence.
