What is the difference between a Firearms Identification Card and License to Carry?

Massachusetts imposes greater restrictions upon the open carry of firearms that it does on their possession, and it allows for two different types of permits regarding the possession of guns. With a Firearms Identification Card a citizen is permitted to possess a firearm, but only in their home or place of business. In order to have or use a gun outside of your home or place of business you are required to meet the eligibility restrictions of a License to Carry, which involves extensive gun safety education among other prerequisites.
