Police look for driver in hit-and-run accident

Police are currently looking for a man that was involved in a car accident and then fled the scene.

According to police officials, the accident occurred at the intersection of Winthrop and Commercial streets where a ladder was leaning against a building as a part of a painting project.

The car then fled the scene after striking the ladder. Police are still looking for the identity of the driver and will most likely be charged with leaving the scene of an accident that caused property damage and personal injury. It is unknown the man was drunk driving during the time of the collision.

Former police officer arrested for drunk driving with child

A former police officer in Barnstable was recently arrested for drunk driving with a child in the car. The cop has now been arrested for six months after it was found that he took the child on a seven hour car ride while intoxicated.

According to police officials that were involved in the arrest, the man was taking the boy to his baseball tournament  last July and the boy felt so unsafe in the car, he ended up jumping from the vehicle. The former officer was also the coach of the team.

The Cape Cod Times reported that the man pleaded guilty last month and was sentenced to 30 days in jail for drunk driving and five months for child endangerment.  The officer resigned from the police station in September and is currently seeking treatment.

Matthew Fox charged with DWI

An actor in the popular television show, ‘Lost’ has now been arrested and charged with drunk driving.

According to police officials, actor, Matthew Fox was arrested on Friday in central Oregon after police noticed his car was unable to stay in one lane of traffic. Police also noticed that he failed to use his turn signal.

After he was stopped, police determined that Fox was showing signs of impairment and he was taken into a county jail. Fox is expected to be back in court on June 17. No further information has been released at this time.

Amanda Bynes strikes police car, cited for suspicion of DUI

Amanda Bynes was arrested after police suspected that she was drunk driving when she collided with a police car at a West Hollywood intersection last week.

Police involved in the case stated that the incident occurred in the early morning hours of Friday after the 26-year-old spent the evening at a club in L.A.

Her father has recently stated that Bynes was not drunk during the accident and she was just emotional. Bynes was held overnight and will have to return to the court after a date for her hearing is set.

DUI attorney pleads not guilty to drunk driving charge

A DUI attorney in Rhode Island has recently plead not guilty to drunk driving with a suspended license after  getting pulled over by police on Saturday night.

According to police officials, the woman was pulled over and was allegedly slurring her speech. Police attempted to perform a sobriety test, but the woman denied the test.

Police also found partially open alcohol bottles in the car and the woman was arrested. She is expected to be back in court on March 23.

Cape Cod resident receives 6th DUI offense

A 50-year-old Cape Cod man was arrested in Westport for driving under the influence, making it his sixth drunk driving offense.

When the man was pulled over, he had numerous open containers of alcohol in his vehicle. He also admitted to the police that he had not possessed a legal license for nearly 20 years. He was driving on Route 6 when he was pulled over by Westport Police. The woman who called the police had been following the man in order to ensure that he didn’t harm anyone, and to keep tabs on him until the police could arrive.

The man was taken to jail, and his bail was set at $10,000. Prosecutors are trying to arrange a dangerousness hearing, in order to determine if the man is considered a danger to society. If he is deemed a danger, then he will be remanded in jail until his actual hearing.

Allegedly drunk driver hits jogger in Cape Cod

A 29-year-old Mashpee woman has been arrested for alleged drunk driving after her vehicle hit a runner on Great Hill Road.

The pedestrian accident occurred around 5 a.m. last Thursday morning. This is the driver’s second offense for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She is also being charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

The runner was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with minor injuries. She had been wearing protective gear during her run and should have been visible to the driver. A witness to the accident followed the potential drunk driver until police were able to arrive at the scene.

Cape Cod father accused of drunk driving

A father accused of drunk driving while his 5-year-old son was in the car is claiming that the allegations are false.

Last Friday night, a car accident happened involving the Cape Cod man as well as an ambulance. According to the report issued by the Cape Cod police, the father was driving intoxicated when he failed to stop behind an emergency vehicle, crashing into the back of the vehicle. The ambulance had it’s lights on and the vehicle slammed into it again, this time becoming lodged into the back.

The man was arrested after police smelled alcohol on his breath and was reportedly wearing his shirt backwards. His son was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries after being thrown from his seat due to not properly being fastened into the car. The Cape Cod man is denying these allegations, stating that his son was strapped into the car and definitely had a seat belt on.

The police are standing behind their report and the man is due back in court in November to face the charges against him.

Orleans police officer accused of driving drunk

Orleans police officer Anthony Manfredi has admitted to facts related to his DUI charge from last year.

Manfredi was charged with driving under the influence and negligent operation after he wrecked his vehicle in Mashpee on October 2nd of last year, crashing into a tree. Both Manfredi and his passenger sustained injuries from the accident.

According to Chief Jeffrey Roy, the 32-year-old is now working as a part-time dispatcher after being out of work for several months following the incident. The officer must pay $350 in court fees, attend alcohol education classes, and his driver’s license will be taken away for 45 days.

Although his charges have been continued without a finding for the past year, he must participate in a town disciplinary hearing.

Harwich man charged with driving while intoxicated

A man from Harwich was caught driving under the influence in Dennisport Friday evening.

The 20-year-old man was driving on Depot Street in an Audi shortly after 9pm when the incident occurred. The driver lost control of the car, then drove through a fence and hit a tree along the car’s path. The vehicle finally came to a halt after striking a boat trailer.

According to a Dennis fire official, hydraulic tools were needed to remove the man from the vehicle. The 20-year-old sustained serious injuries, but they are believed to be non-life threatening. He was taken to the Cape Cod hospital for treatment.

The man has been charged with speeding, violation of a marked lane, and operating under the influence.
