The state’s Sex Offender Registry Board is implementing federal guidelines that will strengthen registration requirements. The deadline is July 2010.

The state of Massachusetts still has questions about whether or not they should implement this new system. Non-compliance could result in a loss of $1 million of federal crime prevention funding.

The Sex Offender Registration Notification Act (SORNA), creates a national registry and allows the information accessible to the public. It also requires that the state  meet a set of standards when registering sex offenders.
